Review of Ortiz Spanish Anchovies in Olive Oil (1.7 ounce) by igourmet.com

These are not your average anchovy in a can -- these are wonderful! They truely add flavor to tomato sauce, tomato soup, salad, .... they just melt into the food.People wonder why my food is better than theirs -- it's probably the addition of these anchovies!(I even use the olive oil in the bottom of the jar after the anchovies are used up.Really wonderful!)They come with a little fork, which makes them easy to remove from the jar, and I have several forks now. What do you do with them after a while? They are cheaper from my local store, though. They do not require refrigeration -- I just keep mine on the counter -- even after it's been opened. However, I live in the NE, so maybe in the South you might need to be wary of temps.

Another treat is a great spinach salad with raisins and currents topped with the smoked olive oil. It is a natural way to finish off their barbecued meats rather than using artificial liquid smoke. Review of Bonito Del Norte Tuna - White Tuna in Olive Oil

This is a high quality albacore that comes in a single large chunk. The texture is very firm and it has good flavor for albacore.Clearly far better than chicken of the sea, but I didn't think it was so amazing that it was clearly worth the premium price. To me, Albacore is more bland and has a drier texture than yellowfin. While this is fine for making tuna salads, I expected to be able to enjoy a tuna this expensive straight out of the jar.

For a truly amazing jar tuna, try tonnino yellowfin ventresca. It's from the belly (mmm, fatty), has a luscious melt-in-your mouth texture, and a fresh tuna flavor.I opened a jar for a taste, and 10 minutes later had an empty jar.Oops!

Review of Agrumato Extra Virgin Olive Oil Pressed with Lemons

The oil itself is excellent and the lemon flavor is just right--stronger than the stuff that you might get in a local grocer's, at least here in Texas--but it doesn't have a processed, chemical taste.

I find that using it as the only oil in a vinaigrette is too strong, and so you needn't go to the expense, but if it comprises a fourth to a half of the oil, and if the other oil is good, the balance is quite nice. In fact, if the acid in the vinaigrette is a good sherry vinegar, the flavor of the lemon in the oil is more noticeable than the vinegar.

Product Description:
Agrumato oils stem from an ancient culinary tradition of Abruzzo, on the Adriatic sea. Farmers for centuries have crushed small quantities of olives with lemons for use in their own homes. All the olives are harvested by hand and the citrus picked at a perfect ripeness. The olives and fruit are crushed using a tradition stone mill. This crushing produces a paste which is pressed with low pressure and the juice centrifuged to release the water from the oil. Only the oil from this first pressing is used, as it is the most intense and flavorful. This rare olive oil is golden green in color with a wonderful citrus aroma.

Review of Masserie di Sant'Eramo Flavorful Extra Virgin Olive Oil (Italy)

I spent an hour one day tasting a variety of expensive olive oils at the St. Lawrence Market in Toronto and came home with something very pricy that tasted like car grease. The following day in exasperation I just hauled something off the shelf at our local supermarket and it turned out to be fantastic.Masserie di Sant'Eramo (the "flavourful" kind, not the "delicate" version) always gets compliments and it's very difficult to find; no other supermarket in Toronto or where we live now on the west coast has it, at least to my knowledge.I was delighted to find that it's available through Amazon since I had given up hope of finding it anywhere other than at Loblaws in Toronto.Strongly recommended!

Review of Badia a Coltibuono Olive Oil Harvest 2008 Released 2009 33.8oz

Badia a Coltibuono olive oil is a legend, deservedly so. But be forewarned -- if you are used to the bland olive oils sold mass market in most supermarkets, the strong assertive character may come as somewhat of a shock. As noted in the Amazon product description, "according to Deborah Krasner in "The Flavors of Olive Oil", this oil "...is strongly and pleasantly bitter, with a pronounced burn....'It made my face scrunch up.' Very green and grassy, this is an oil made for drizzling."" I would tend to agree with that. In my opinion, this is really at it's best drizzled over grilled meats, vegetables and salads almost as a condiment. For dipping bread and most cooking (it's too expensive for most chefs on a budget like mine anyway) you might prefer an oil from Sicily, Spain, Australia or California, which are softer and more buttery. That said, for purists, this may be the right olive oil even for bread dipping. It's flavors and aromas are remarkably complex and powerful.

Review of Costa Dei Rosmarini Extra Virgin Olive Oil

It is my impression that people not from the Mediterranean region are not aware of the benefits of drinking extra virgin olive oil.I belonged to this group until two years ago and so did the rest of my family until recently. They've always thought that olive oil (all oils for that matter) are meant to be used only for cooking. They were grossed out when they saw me dipping bread into olive oil (and even drinking straight from the bottle). Anyways, after some persuasion, they finally agreed to dip some bread to taste it, and soon enough they too became converts!

It was through Costa dei Rosmarini's Santa Chiara that they were properly introduced to extra virgin oil of superior quality. This extra virgin olive oil has a superb taste with very little acidity. I've been drinking/eating a variety of extra virgin olive oils (including oils from Greece, Italy, Spain and Portugal) for at least 2 years now, and the taste from Costa dei Rosmarini has been one of the finest I've tasted (not that the others were bad, in fact, they were also sufficiently good).

Costa di Rosmarini's Santa Chiara adds a delicious taste to just about all foods.Sure, everybody recommends adding olive oil to salads and pasta, but we have also added Costa dei Rosmarini to our own food (we cook mainly Mexican at our household), and it adds a delicious taste to whatever it is we're eating. The taste of this olive oil is truly delicate and it doesn't overpower the taste of the food it gets added to.

Finally, there are some alternative uses to this oil.Besides drinking it, we also use it as a face wash, and it works very well at fighting the dirt! Even the cats have benefited from a few drops on their food, to help them prevent forming hairballs.

It can be such a pity that major stores like HEB and WalMart don't carry high quality extra virgin olive oil like this one for adding it directly to food on the plate. They only sale extra virgin olive oil of lower quality that is meant for cooking.

I recommend all who haven't tried Costa Dei Rosmarini extra virgin oil to give it a try!

Review of Iliada Kalamata Greek Extra Virgin Olive Oil , 17-Ounce Bottle (Pack of 3)

I first purchased this product to replenish my "Kalamata Gold" Greek olive oil supply, which suddenly became unavailable. I use this particular olive oil exclusively for stove-top cooking. I haven't used it in salad dressings, or any other cold dishes; though it is probably an excellent choice for salad dressing.

I have at least four different kinds of olive oil in my pantry at any given time. Some are floral, some are fruity, some (now discarded) are overpoweringly oily. Iliada Kalamata Greek EVOO is neither floral nor fruity and certainly not oily on the palette, so it is an excellent choice when one doesn't want the oil to impart much flavor of its own. Again, I use this oil for cooking, but it is likely an excellent choice for dressings.

Review of Laudemio Extra Virgin Olive Oil ,Harvest 2009 16.9-Ounce Bottle (Pack of 2)

Although I like to try lots of different olive oils to explore the many and varied flavors, if I had to choose just one, it would probably be Laudemio, from one of the greatest wine estates of Tuscany, the Marchesi di Frescobaldi. Laudemio is produced from early harvested Tuscan varieties of Frantoio, Moraiolo and Leccino olives grown and pressed on Frescobaldi's hillside estate in Chianti Rufina. What makes Laudemio so special is that it combines the best of the classic, "grippy" style of the best Tuscan olive oil with the softer, more buttery notes more typical of the better olive oils from southern Italy and Spain. That makes it great not only for drizzling over grilled meats and vegetables, but for dipping in your favorite loaf of crusty Italian or French bread.Clear and intensely green, fruity, full, well-rounded and spicy, this dark olive- green has subtle floral and mineral aromas, and it is full -bodied and peppery, with a very fresh and lively after taste. It is a classic olive oil of the highest quality, and I highly recommend it.
