Product Description:
After a long wait, we finally bring you chorizo cured in Spain. You will immediately notice the difference between this chorizo and domestic imitations. Palacios, a company based in LogroƱo, the capital of the La Rioja region, earned permission from the U.S. authorities to export chorizo to the U.S. in 1997, but it wasn't until 2001 that it started entering the country in any significant quantity. Palacios Chorizo does not contain any preservatives or artificial colors; just pork sausage cured with paprika and garlic. They use a traditional process, using a secret 30-year-old family recipe. Its meat and natural ingredients are carefully selected, creating a smoky, earthy, sweet and tangy sausage.

Finally, Americans can enjoy one of the true culinary treasures of Spain! Chorizo is excellent in stews, potages, omelets, paellas, or served as part of a tapas. It makes a statement, with a flavor so powerful that it does not influence a dish subtly. Available in regular or hot. Varieties sold separately.

Product Description:
Truffles are said to be at their best in Piemonte. It's Piemonte, in the city of Alba, that plays host to the world's largest truffle market, a loud and competitive frenzy of truffle buying and selling. Domenica Bertolusso, who owns a truffle shop in Piobesi d' Alba, has been in the truffle business since the 1960s. One of the few women in this male dominated business, Domenica is passionate about all things Piemontese. Despite the small size of her operation, Tartuflanghe is one of the region's most influential truffle sellers. Domenica started her business with just a few truffle products, but she has expanded her line to include truffle pasta, truffle oil, truffle risotto and truffle polenta.

These summer Piemontese truffles are preserved in extra virgin olive oil. Use them to flavor egg or potato dishes in place of butter.

We believe that truffles jarred at the peak of freshness retain their flavor better than truffles shipped or flown here in their whole form. With these jarred truffles, you can indulge in one of Italy's greatest treasures without blowing a hole in your budget.

Toss this truffle butter with pasta or add to risotto or potatoes in place of butter.

Review of Talatta Anchovy Fillets with Almonds

I'm a big anchovy fan. I enjoyed this product. The anchovies were flavorful with a nice texture. However, I don't think I'll order again because the almonds retained no almond flavor as they were completely overwhelmed by the anchovy flavor. Review of Harvest Song Fresh Walnut Artisanal Preserve 18.9 oz.

This is the second Green Walnut preserve I bought, in hope of finding "the real thing" that I recently tasted during my trip to Turkey. (The previous one was Green Walnut Preserve (Gradina) 14oz (400g), also sold on amazon). Disappointed again. It's over boiled, does not smell/taste anything like walnuts, and has a very strange tea-like aroma. It's actually produced in New Jersey, not Armenia....
Avoid this product, as well as the other preserve I mentioned. If I find the real thing, I will post updates here.

Review of Honey Portion Cups - 0.5 oz x 140 pcs (1 case) by D'arbo, Austria.

When I ordered the product, I thought the shipping cost was very high, but paid it because I had trouble finding honey portions like this elsewhere. The product arrived, and the honey was old and crsytallized to the point of being unusable, but I did not return it because there were no instructions about sending it back, and I did not want to pay the shipping cost, which was almost the price of the product, twice. So I just didn't say anything.
Then Amazon asked me to review the product, and I did, giving it one star based on the condition of the product.I immediately began to get a series of outraged e-mails from "customer service" at the company, who tried to persuade me to remove the rating in a number of clumsily manipulative ways, starting with the allegation that my negative review was somehow hurting the US economy.I found that particularly curious, since the company was supposedly Austrian (accounting for the ridiculous shipping costs!)
I responded by explaining the condition in which the product was received, and telling them why I hadn't returned it.They ignored what I said about the condition of their product through a series of e-mails, and then finally offered me a bribe of 80% of the shipping cost if I would remove the negative rating. They offered to explain how I could do that so that they would be able to refund part of the shipping.I turned them down. Then, they basically said I was lying about the condition of the product, and said that I should have returned it within 48 hours if I didn't like it.I explained once more why I hadn't, and noted that there had been nothing said about 48 hours at any previous time.I explained that I would either like a refund or a replacement.Neither was offered. They company is rude, insulting, and unresponsive to customer dissatisfaction. The product was inferior and overpriced.I would suggest you avoid these people completely, and not make the mistake I did.

Review of Natural Basil Pesto from Genova (Pesto Genovese)

Pesto Genovese is, without a doubt, my favorite pesto. My family and I eat it on capelli d'angeli at least once every week.We add a salad and a loaf of crusty Italian bread and the meal is simple but delicious beyond compare.
This brand of Pesto Genovese is one of my alltime favorites. So many times, Peste Genovese can be too oily, covering up the taste of the basil and the pine nuts. Not so with this pesto.Every ingredient seems to be perfectly balanced so you get the freshest, most flavorful Pesto Genovese available. The taste of the basil and the pine nuts is delicate, but so exquisite.
If you like Pesto Genovese or just want a change from more "traditional" tomato sauces, I urge you to give this pesto a try.I don't think you can go wrong.

Review of Coltibuono Badia A Coltibuono Olive Oil, 33.8-Ounce Bottle (Pack of 2)

Badia a Coltibuono olive oil is a legend, deservedly so. But be forewarned -- if you are used to the bland olive oils sold mass market in most supermarkets, the strong assertive character may come as somewhat of a shock. As noted in the Amazon product description, "according to Deborah Krasner in "The Flavors of Olive Oil", this oil "...is strongly and pleasantly bitter, with a pronounced burn....'It made my face scrunch up.' Very green and grassy, this is an oil made for drizzling.""I would tend to agree with that. In my opinion, this is really at it's best drizzled over grilled meats, vegetables and salads almost as a condiment. For dipping bread and most cooking (it's too expensive for most chefs on a budget like mine anyway) you might prefer an oil from Sicily, Spain, Australia or California, which are softer and more buttery. That said, for purists, this may be the right olive oil even for bread dipping. It's flavors and aromas are remarkably complex and powerful.

Review of Castello di Poppiano Laudemio 2008

Although I like to try lots of different olive oils to explore the many and varied flavors, if I had to choose just one, it would probably be the Laudemio, produced by a consortium of 30 top quality producers in the heart of Tuscany. Laudemio is produced from early harvested Tuscan varieties of Frantoio, Moraiolo and Leccino olives grown and pressed on specially selected soils in the Chianti zone. What makes Laudemio so special is that it combines the best of the classic, "grippy" style of the best Tuscan olive oil with the softer, more buttery notes more typical of the better olive oils from southern Italy and Spain. That makes it great not only for drizzling over grilled meats and vegetables, but for dipping in your favorite loaf of crusty Italian or French bread. Clear and intensely green, fruity, full, well-rounded and spicy, this dark olive- green has subtle floral and mineral aromas, and it is full -bodied and peppery, with a very fresh and lively after taste. It is a classic olive oil of the highest quality, and I highly recommend it.

Product Description:
At Castello di Poppiano in the Montespertoli area of Chianti, south of Florence, Count Ferdinando Guicciardini, oversees the very limited production of extra virgin olive oil from his grove. Podere La Costa, was acquired by his ancestors in the 14th century. These 30-odd acres of Tuscan frantoio olive trees have produced some of the most intensely flavored oil in Italy. The oil from Podere La Costa is bottled as Laudemio, an elite designation create by central Tuscan growers following the devastating freeze in 1986. The Laudemio consortium oversees production according to strict guidelines. Crafted from a selection of Frantoio (90%), Pendolino and Moraiolo (10%) olive varietals from the best olive groves in the Guicciardini Estate, Poppiano Laudemio s olives are hand harvested in early November at their perfect ripeness. They are pressed within 24 hours of picking, and never bottled in larger than ½ liter size. The process yields a filtered olive oil with a clear, vibrant green color. Its aroma is classified as intensely fruity, reminiscent of freshly pressed olives and recently cut grass. It tastes faintly of almonds, with a hint of artichoke, and an assertive peppery, round finish. This is a true Tuscan olive oil -full of intense flavor and aroma. It is green and spicy with the requisite Tuscan peppery after-burn, or pizzicatta.Poppiano Laudemio s awards include a Gold Medal (L.A. County Fair, 2006), Ercole Olivario (various awards 1996-2003) Packaged in an attractive box - it is perfect for gift-giving.Drizzle over Ribollita (a thick Tuscan soup with beans, bread, and vegetables) or try on a Florentine steak, Bistecca alla Fiorentina.

Review of Marques De Grinon Extra Virgin Olive Oil From Spain , 16.9-Ounce Bottle (Pack of 2)

Just like many of the best Italian olive oils come from top wine producers, Marques De Grinon EVOO comes from one of Spain's greatest wineries, Marques De Grinon, known for it's exceptional Cabernets and Syrahs from its estate in Castilla-La Mancha. This olive oil is quite complex and rich, more buttery and less bitter than typical Tuscan oils, but every bit as fresh and flavorful. I would put it as a worthy alternative to the Tuscan oils, particularly for dipping in bread, where it's softness makes it especially delectable. It's too expensive to be used for everyday cooking, but it can be drizzled on steaks and chops at the end to add aromatic and flavor nuance to grilled meats and vegetables. Really, this is a world class oil.

Review of Sciabica's California Sevillano Variety Fall Harvest Extra Virgin Olive Oil 12.7 Oz.

I love olive oil.I have spent a fortune on various olive oils from around the world. When I heard of Sciabica's Olive Oil several years ago, I was skeptical since it is from California.I ordered some.I was blown away.I have tried all of their varieties, even the flavored oils which I was never a fan of, and they are all remarkable.I don't think you will find a better oil at any price than Sciabica's.Don't tell my girlfriend, but I often take a swig right out of the bottle when cooking with it.The Mission Variety Limited Release has replaced butter in all my baking recipes. It is sweet, buttery and mild. When I heard that Mr. Sciabica puts it on his toast, I tried it on pancakes.Unbelievable.If you like flavored oils, they are not infused oils...the Sciabicas actually put the lemons, or peppers, or garlic into the press with the olives. You get the REAL flavor of whatever is added.I recommend the Jalapeno (I brush it on grilled cheese samdwiches), the rosemary for chicken and the lemon for salad dressings.I could go on forever about Sciabica's Olive Oil.Do yourself a favor and try it.

I thought I was getting a good deal by purchasing A L'Olivier's olive oil infused with porcini and truffle instead of buying one of the other pricier options. The company seemed to have a good reputation and lots of people were raving about "Made in France" (which I don't really care since I'm not a francophile, Made in Italy for me is just as good, or probably even better). When I first received this item I thought I got an old, stale one by mistake - there was no truffle or porcini flavor whatsoever.Amazon customer service was super responsive and shipped me another one but when I opened it to try it out, I was similarly disappointed.
Don't buy this oil. You'd end up saving money by getting a pricier, better truffle-infused oil because you'll be using a lot less of that oil for the same amount of flavor. But then, that would mean I had to use a lot of this oil to get a truffle or porcini flavor which was impossible because it had none.

Review of Pitted Taggiasca Olives from Liguria (Olive Denocciolate)

I became addicted to these wonderful little olives while living in the Netherlands for ten years. I bought them by the gallon. Unfortunately, they are not cheap or easy to find in the USA, so I was thrilled to find an outlet that sold them in pitted form, though I would have accepted anything. Once you eat them, you will not touch any other kind of black olive. The Taggiasca Olives from Liguria are the only black olives in the world that are not dyed to make them black. It's one of those things that I don't care what they cost, I have to have them in my panty at all times. Good luck staying away from them, once you've had a taste.

Review of Olive Oil Spreads by A L'Olivier - Garlic and Herb (3.5 ounce) by igourmet.com

This is a very delicious spread, perfect on toast, ciabatta, and especially whole wheat bread rolls. It is pretty expensive, but like many of the products from iGourmet, I feel that it is worth it. If you are looking for a savory treat for yourself or a friend, this is a great choice. My whole family really enjoys the Tuscan flavor of this spread and we will be trying some of the other flavors of Olive Oil spreads soon. I feel like this is a great healthy indulgence!

Product Description:
Introduced last year in Europe to great acclaim, France's famed olive oil specialists have created olive oil that is as spreadable as butter. This patented innovation combines the advantages of healthy Mediterranean diet value of olive oil with the convenience of a butter tub. They are 100% natural and contain no additives, colorants, preservatives, or chemicals. Rich in mono unsaturated fat acids (69%) and with less than 25% of saturated fat, they fit nutritionists' recommendations for proper fat intake. Thanks to the solid texture, achieved through the addition of vegetable monoglycerides, they can replace butter or margarine in cooking. These compact spreads come in convenient tartiner style flat plastic containers.

They are shelf stable, but are best kept in the butter case or refrigerator to maintain a solid texture. Serve them on breakfast bagels or anywhere else you use butter or margarine - in an omelette, toasted on crostini, spread on sandwiches instead of mayo, and for sautƩeing or frying meats, fish, or vegetables. Available in four delicious flavors: Basil, Garlic & Herb, Lemon and Natural.

Review of 8.5 Oz Grand'aroma Marinata Flavored Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Grand'aroma Marinata Flavored Extra Virgin Olive oil is the best you'll find.I basted it on salmon for a New Year's Eve dinner and it was excellent, the best tasting salmon I ever ate.It gives wonderful flavor and works great on all type of fish/seafood.It is very light and tasty and is not salty or bitter. It has all the great spices already in it.I purchased it locally and the shop went out of business (I got in a shower gift kitchen basket) and loved it, but was unable to purchase since then.I held onto the bottle and just typed in the name after I was unable to get anywhere typing name of company on bottle. This is really great olive oil and I highly recommend it to anyone who loves to cook fish.I put in on the salmon with nothing else, put under broiler and it was done in a very short time and tasted excellent.I did add a little S&P to my taste also.It works great to use in a cruet to make your dressings for salads also.I give it a 5*.Thank you.DP

Review of Badia a Colitbuono Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Badia a Coltibuono olive oil is a legend, deservedly so. But be forewarned -- if you are used to the bland olive oils sold mass market in most supermarkets, the strong assertive character may come as somewhat of a shock. As noted in the Amazon product description, "according to Deborah Krasner in "The Flavors of Olive Oil", this oil "...is strongly and pleasantly bitter, with a pronounced burn....'It made my face scrunch up.' Very green and grassy, this is an oil made for drizzling."" I would tend to agree with that.

Review of Ranieri Extra Virgin olive oil Gold

My favorite. Better than many much pricier olive oils. And the metallic wrapping helps protect it from light, as it should be.

Product Description:
This extra virgin olive oil is rich and buttery with a light Ligurian flavor which has made extra virgin oliveoils from this region so very prized. This Gold Labeled Ranieri is unfiltered extra virgin olive oil which gives it greater depth and body. The olives are collected by pickers, either with large wicker baskets, or by spreading large nets around the base of each tree and shaking it.As soon as they are harvested, the olives are taken to the frantoio - or mill - where the oil must be extracted within a week. The best oil is produced from olives processed one or two days after picking. The olives are then cleaned in cold water and then crushed. The kneaded pulp is layered on fibrous mats and pressed between huge stones or metal plates. The whole process takes place without using any heat or chemicals!

Review of Mediterranean Bluefin Tuna Ventresca in Olive Oil by Tre Torri, Sicilia

The only downside to this is that it's $50+...if it's in stock. Now that the bad part is out of the way, on to why this stuff is $50+: the fattest part of Mediterranean bluefin tuna (the ventresca is otoro, or what would be called "fatty tuna" at a sushi restaurant, and the tarantello is the chutoro or "medium fatty tuna") is steamed and canned in extra virgin olive oil. Sushi-grade tuna that has been mildly cooked and canned (shelf life is about 5 years) that exchanges some of the flavor of raw toro with the flavor of premium extra virgin olive oil.
I found out about Tre Torri Ventresca reading reviews of canned tuna, and this one is nearly unanimously placed as #1 in a category all its own. It's way too rich and tender to use on a sandwich; it's great out of the can on water crackers where its texture and tuna/olive oil flavors that melt together on the tongue really shine.

Click Here to see more reviews about: Mediterranean Bluefin Tuna Ventresca in Olive Oil by Tre Torri, Sicilia

Product Description:
We are talking about Mediterranean Tuna (thunnus thynnus), the most prized species, also called Bluefin Tuna (or, in Italian, "Tonno Rosso"). It's fished in the so called "rush" phase, that is, when it's almost at the end of the long migration that takes it towards the warmest waters for mating. It's at this stage, and not after mating, that it is possible to glean the best and nutritionally richest tuna meats. The processing and preserving company "Conservificio Tre Torri" in Erice takes three different cuts from this Bluefin Tuna, fished off Favignana: the Fillet; Tarantello (tuna meat from the back abdominal muscles); and Ventresca (tuna meat from the belly). All are prepared and packaged by hand, and are preserved in oil. Conservificio Tre Torri also produce Salted Tuna, one of the most ancient methods of tuna processing. Trancio di Tonno from Erice in Olive Oil: quite simply, tuna in oil, and purely tuna fillet. It's the leanest part of the tuna, and so tends to be the toughest. But Bluefin Tuna is never tough.
